1. Construction of protective dykes/ walls to enclose the part of the sea to be reclaimed.

2. Construction of ring canals to carry water from the reclaimed land area into sea.

3. Installation of pump stations to pump out sea water from the area enclosed by the dykes

4. Reeds meant to prevent growth of weeds and use up any excess water in the area were sown so that the soil could be dry.

5. Drainage ditches were cut in the land and drainage pipes laid. More pumping stations were put up to drain water from the
water table.

6. Area was divided into rectangular portion using inner dykes and ring canals

7. Soils were treated with chemicals to lower their salinity

8. Drained land was flushed with fresh water to remove salt from the soil

9. Pumping out of the water from the soil to prevent water from accumulating in the reclaimed land.
