(i) Swarm of locusts (Amos 7:1-3)

Amos saw God sending a swarm of locusts which destroyed all plants and food in the land. Amos cried to God to have mercy on his people. This vision symbolized the impending famine that would strike Israel. Amos prayer was answered and God lifted the punishment away


(ii) The vision of a great fire (Amos 7:4-6)

Amos saw a great fire that consumed the waters and land. Amos pleaded; again and God answered his prayer This vision showed that God was going to destroy Israel by sending a supernatural fire.

(iii) The vision &f the plumbline /, crooked wall (Amos 7:7-9)

Amos saw a man checking a crooked wall with a plumbline. This time Amos didn't plead with God for forgiveness.
The visions showed that Israelites were crooked and God had checked their hearts and found them not right. As a plumber destroys a crooked wall so would he destroy Israel.

(iv) The vision of a basket of ripe fruits (Amos 8:1-3)

Amos saw a vision of a basket of summer fruit. Amos did not pray again. The vision implied that the time was now ripe for Israelites to be punished.

(v) The vision of the destruction of the altar (Amos 9:1-4)

Amos saw the Lord standing by the altar. He then ordered for the destruction of the temple and its pillars. Every wicked person would be killed and could not hide. This vision meant that the shrines at Bethel and Dan would be destroyed 'because they were the centres of evil. No one would escape the punishment no matter where they hide.
