1. The area receives high rainfall/ 1000 mm – 1500 mm per year which encourages the growth of trees

2. The area has deep/ well drained volcanic soils that allows the roots to penetrate deep in to the ground/uptake/ provision of
nutrients.

3. Enforcement of laws that allow for re establishment of forests

4. The area is gazetted forests/ hence settlement or cultivation is prohibited

5. Some areas are steep/ rugged which discourages settlement and allow for forest growth.

6. The area has moderate to cool conditions/ climate that allow for the growth of a variety of trees.
