There are several instances in the novel when Akoko made ruthless decisions.A ruthless decision is one where one is determined to get what they want without minding hurting others. It can also be defined as being tough, determined and firm in decision making.

When Akoko's mother in law and brother in law Otieno accused her of juok(witch craft),she got annoyed and decided to go back to her parents house despite the absence of her husband. To her,she cared less if her husband chief Owour Kembo was going to marry another wife or not.She left and made it clear to the people that, when the chief married her,she became hardworking and had increased the chiefs wealth significantly, and that the chief was free to marry himself another wife if he wishes. He did not care what would happen to her when the chief returned.

When Akoko's husband Chief Owour died,Otieno sat on the stool with glee and grabbed all her wealth plus the wealth her husband had left behind for her.She got annoyed and headed to kisuma to seek justice from the sirikal. She did not care to hurt his brother in law or fear that anything might happen to her.

These are some of the instance that show that Akoko made ruthless decisions in her life.
