-It states that the earth's crust is divided into tectonic plates, such as; North American plate,Nasca plate,Eurasian plate etc.
-The plates are mobile and float on molten rocks of the upper mantle
-Heat in the upper mantle produces a system of convectional currents which carry the plates along
-The plates form the stable areas of the earth's crust
-In between the plates are plate boundaries which form unstable zones, mobile zones and the effect of the movement of plates is noticed at the mobile zones
-As the plates move, three types of boundaries are formed
-The extension boundary, where the plates are moving away from each other
-Where the plates are moving towards each other, a compressional boundary is formed.
-The shear boundary is formed where the plates are moving latellary past each other
