Oxidation number is the charge of an ion. Also known as oxidation state.
Valency is the number of electron(s) an atom loses or gains to be in its stable gaseous state.

Note:Oxidation number is written as a combination of a sign(-or+) and a number. The sign must be written first before the number e.g +2 for Calcium ion and -2 for Oxygen ion.Valency is written as a superscript(right) of the corresponding ion and the sign(-or+) must be written after the number
