Explain how an ingrown meander is formed

Answers

Davis
-An already meandering river is rejuvenated
-The river flow on resistant rocks
-A gradual uplift of land along which the river flow occurs.
-The river erodes and deepens its valley through vertical erosion
-It widens the valley through lateral erosion
-More erosion occurs along the outer bank of the meander producing a steep cliff
-There is less erosion on the inner bank of the meander producing gentle slip off.
-With time a meander with a steep cliff and a gentle slip off slope is incised into the rock of the river bed forming an ingrown meander.

OR

Formed by lateral and vertical erosion causing one valley side to be steeper than the other and hence asymmetrical in cross section.
