The exploration stage is the second stage of counseling, after building relationship in the first stage of disclosure, the counselor works with the client to help them explore the issues that have brought them to counseling. The counselor will assist the client to establish;
1. The nature of the problem, that is, the feelings,thoughts and behaviors associated with the problem and how the problem affect the relationships of the clients and their significant others.
2. The pattern of events leading to the problem, that is, what time the problem occurs,with who, what makes the problem worse, what makes it disappear.
3. How long has the problem persisted and does it interfere with the clients daily life.
4. How has the client coped with the problem, what has worked and what has not worked.
