a) Self- crossing the plant- this involves crossing the plant with a similar variety. The results will determine the genotypic characteristics of the parent plants.
b) Crossing with a plant of a known genotype.An example is if the known genotype is TT- tall(if the characteristic under study is tallness) the f1 generation offsprings appear as 3 Tt(heterozygous tall) and 1 tt(homozygous dwarf) then the unknown parental genotype becomes Tt(heterozygous tall)
