An air bubble is observed to increase in size as it rises through a liquid column and bursts on reaching the surface. Explain this observation.

The size of the air bubble increases as the pressure due to the liquid column decreases leading to increase in volume of air. At the surface the pressure inside the bubble is greater than atmospheric pressure. This causes the bubble to burst.
