A retroactive interference: is when more recent information gets onto the way when trying to recall older information. On the other hand proactive interference: is where older information prevents the recall of newer/recent information.

Proactive interference is a psychological term referring to difficulty in learnig new information due to the already mastered or learned information whereas Retroactive interference refers to the difficulty in recalling past information due to the newly learned information.
