A document that is issued by the seller to the buyer as proof that payment has been made. This could be in cash, cheque, or other form of money or in kind.
It contains the following
a. Date of payment
b. Name of the person making payment
c. Amount paid in words and figures and means of payment
d. Name of the institution or person to whom payment is made.
e. Receipt number
f. Signature of the person issuing the receipt.
