1. Flexibility.
All organizations are dynamic and changes occur for wide range of reasons. A good management information system must be able to adopt to meet these changes.
2. Reliability.
Reliability is a crucial performance and can be ensured only through checking and testing. Good standards help to make the management information systems reliable as do validation and security routines.
3. Simplicity.
Simplicity in design will find its way through the system. Anyone can design a complicated system but it takes real skills and experience to design simple systems which are easy to operate and control.systems are abstract and therefore not apparent in complicated management information system.
4. Helpfulness.
Unless the management information system helps in planning, operation and control to the business, it is superfluous.
5. Consistency.
Information system should be consistent. There must be a link between all the data. Data should be collected by the same method and scale and should be presented at equal intervals.
6. Relevance.
The information given to each manager should be relevant to his responsibilities and authorities. The flow of information should be from one level to another in the direction where decision is to be taken.

Describe the Management information system characteristics

Management information system professionals usually design MRS rather than end users- using life cycle oriented development methodologies.
They are large and complex in terms of the number of system interfaces with the various users and databases.
Management information systems are built for situations in which information requirements are reasonably well known and are expected to remain relatively stable. This limits the informational flexibility of management information systems but ensures that a stable informational environment exists.
They do not directly support the decision making process in a search for alternative solutions to problems. Information gained through Management information systems is used in the decision making process.
They are oriented towards reporting on the past and the present, rather than projecting the future. Can be manipulated to do predictive reporting.
Management information systems have limited analytical capabilities. They are not built around elaborate models, but rather rely on extraction from the databases according to the given criteria.
