Find the estimate of the area enclosed by the curve y = 3x3 -5, the x axis and the line x = 4 and x = 6 using the mid-ordinate rule with 4 rectangles

h = $\frac{6 - 4}{4}$ = $\frac{2}{4} \frac{1}{2}$

x|4|4.5|5|5.5|6|

Mid ordinates are

4.25, 4.75, 5.25, 5.75

y = 3x3 - 5

when:

x = 4.25,

y = 3(76.8) - 5 = 225.3

x = 4.75,

y = 3(107.2) - 5 = 316.52

x = 5.25

y = 3(144.7) - 5 = 429.11

x = 5.75,

y = 3(190.11) - 5 = 565.33

all omid-ordinate rule is

h(sum of ordinate)

= $\frac{1}{2}(225.3 + 316.52 + 429.11 + 565.33)$

= 768.1359 sq. units
