A quantity T is partly constant and partly varies as the square root of S.
a) Using k and m as the constants, write down an equation connecting T and S
b) If S = 16 when T = 24 and S = 36 when T = 32, find the value of the constants

Answers

John
a) T = k + m$\sqrt S$

b) Substitute the values in the equation in (a) above

24 = k + 4m
32 = k + 6m

-8 = -2m; therefore m = 4

24 = k + 4(4); 24 = k + 16

k = 24 - 16

k = 8

therefore the constants are m = 4 and k = 8
