The equation of the line L1 is 5y + 2x + 8 = 0 and L2 passes through the points (-5,0) and(5, -4).

The equation of the line L1 is 5y + 2x + 8 = 0 and L2 passes through the points (-5,0) and(5, -4). Without drawing the lines L1 and L2, show that the lines are parallel to each other

L = 5y + 2x + 8 = 0

5y = -2x - 8; y = -$\frac{2x}{5}-\frac{8}{5}$

Gradient m1 = -$\frac{2}{5}$

Gradient of the line passing

through (-5, 0) and (5, -4)

$\frac{y -y_1}{x - x_1}$ = $\frac{-4 - 0}{5--5}$ = -$\frac{4}{10}$ = -$\frac{2}{5}$

Gradient m2 = -$\frac{2}{5}$

for parallel lines m1 = m2
