Pre-test counselling is the guidance and assistance given to someone prior to a test in their HIV status.
It is important to undergo this counselling due the following reasons;

The client is introduced to all concepts and facts about HIV and AIDS so as to be fully aware.
The client understands the importance of the step he or she has taken.
The client is made aware of the implications of the results to themselves and their partners in case results will be in the contrary of their expectations.
A person is given an opportunity to make an informed decision after the counselling.
Pre-test counselling helps reduce unnecessary anxiety.
This counselling assures someone that the results will be confidential whatsoever.
The client is also assured of reliable methods and procedures of testing used.
This stage aims winning the confidence of the client in their step to undertake testing.
