1. The basic political unit was the clan which made up of related families
2. Several families, Kokwet, joined together to form a larger unit called Bororiet
3. The clan was governed by a junior council of elders who settled minor disputes and divided grazing land.
4. Each Bororiet was controlled by a council of elders were chosen from the clans because of their wisdom, military skills and social status.
5. Boys and girls were circumcised at puberty to form age sets
6. After initiation the boys joined the warrior class
