A neglected child is likely to end up not having proper mental maturity hence underdevelopment of the brain. The effect of this is manifested in the child's inability to grasp knowledge in academics.

(2) Frequent withdrawal from active participation in activities around them to fear and feeling of rejection.

(3) May result to low self esteem in a victim as he or she grows up.

(4) A child may be prone to certain health complications such as malnutrition and diabetes.

(5) A neglected child may grow up to adopt crude behavior like drug abuse and alcoholism.

(6) Lack of adequate parental care can cause poor self identity leading to identity crisis in the child.

(7) As a neglected child grows, they may find it difficult to freely interact ending up as social misfits.

(8) A prolonged feeling of insecurity may make the child lack trust in all adults.
