Active transport is a process by which substances move across the cell membrane and against concentration gradient by use of energy.

The role of active transport in animals include:

Re-absorption of sugars and some salts by the kidney. Useful substances are re-absorbed back into the blood stream from the kidney tubules by active transport.

Accumulation of substances in the body to offset osmotic imbalance in arid and saline environment.

Absorption of digested from the alimentary canal into the blood stream.
