The sap vacuole of the plant cell is more concentrated than the distilled water. The osmotic pressure of the plant is therefore high causing a net flow of water into the cell via osmosis. This causes the cell to distend. The cell wall bring rigid does not allow the the cell to burst. As more water enters the cell, the vacuole enlarges and exerts an outward pressure on the cell wall. This pressure is referred to as turgor pressure. As more water flows into the cell, the cell reaches a point where it cannot stretch anymore. At this point the cell is said to be turgid. The cell develops a resistant force to the turgor pressure referred to as the wall pressure. The wall does not stretch any further.
