Why do Western scholars argue that Africa had no history?

Westerners knew little information about the past of Africa, apart from possibly slavery. Westerners used this as a moral excuse to transport the enslaved Africans and to bring division amongst Africans and the myth of absence of African history was therefore invented. This gave them a right to exploitively tackle the salvages. They were convicted that if Africa had no histroy, then civilisation and culture were absent and Africa was inferior to Westerners.
