Lipids are a source of metabolic water. When oxidised lipids produce water and energy. This water supplements the body's water requirements.
Lipids offer protection to body organs. Fats are deposited around major organs such as the heart,kidney where the fat acts as a shock absorber.
Lipids act as an heat insulator. Fats are deposited underneath the skin where it forms the adipose tissue which greatly reduces heat loss.
