Consideration of personal interest may sometimes cause people to abandon their relatives. This statement is validated by several characters in the play Caucasian Chalk Circle.

Natella Abashwili was so materialistic and only cared about herself. When the city was attacked she left her child,Michael, as she was much concerned of her expensive clothes. It is ironical that she abused her servants who delayed to pack her clothes instead of checking out for Michael evidencing that personal interest may cause people to abandon their close relatives.

Prince Kazbeki overthrew his brother Governor George Abashwili and was also involved in his death. He wanted to rule by himself.Governor George was beheaded on command of Kazbeki.Prince Kazbeki later sent Ironshirts after Michael who was the heir to the Governor. They were to kill the child even though they were related. This entails that personal interest may cause abandonment of close relatives.

Aniko,Grusha's sister in-law, valid much her property. She asked Grusha when was she going to leave just on arival. Grusha's presence to them with a child without a father was a disgrace. This made Lavrenti,Grusha's brother, to find Grusha a husband yet Grusha has a fiancee. He sold her to a peasant woman whose son was believed to be "dying". Lavrenti did this to retain peace with his wife. This shows how personal interest may cause abandonment of close relatives.

The above statements brings out close declaration that personal interest results in abandonment of people of close relatives.
