Below are some of the political developments between 1963 and 1969.
1. Kenya gained its independence in 1963.
2. KADU was disbanded in the year 1964 making Kenya defacto one party state. Also in the same year Kenya became a republic with an executive president. Daniel Moi was also appointed minister for home affairs.
3. In 1965, Pio Gama Pinto was assassinated in Nairobi. In fact Pio Gama Pinto became the first Kenyan politician to be assassinated in Kenya after independence.
4. In 1966, Jaramongi Oginga Odinga quit KANU and formed KPU (Kenya People's Union). During the same year Joseph Murumbi was appointed Vice President.
5. In 1967, Daniel Arap Moi became vice president.
6. In 1969, KPU was banned following riots in Kisumu. Tom Mboya (minister for economic planning and development) was assassinated.
