Both the backspace and delete keys are used when deleting unwanted text in a word processed document.The difference between the two is that they delete individual text in opposite directions.

Pressing backspace will erase characters to the left of the insertion point(cursor)

Pressing delete will erase characters to the right of the insertion point.
