Hydraulic action is the eroding activity on rocks along the river bed and banks by the force of water.

Attrition is the constant wearing into finer particles of the load of rock through frictional ribbing and grinding as they are transported by the river downstream.

Abrasion is the mechanical erosion of frictional wearing of a surface by load being transported by a river.

Solution is whereby the river water dissolves soluble rocks or those with soluble parts and transports the dissolved load in solution form.
