The river channel becomes wider since it has been joined by many tributaries upstream.

The dominant process is lateral erosion leading to widening of the river valley.

The dominant features are wider valley floor, river meanders and concave banks which stand as river cliffs while convex banks become slip off slopes.

Interlocking spurs are gradually removing by lateral erosion to form low bluffs.
