Unpolarized light and plane polarized light can be distinguished by viewing them through a polariser.
When light is viewed through polariser and can be seen continuously even when the polariser is rotated, the light viewed is unpolarized.

When rotating the polariser and the light becomes dim and cuts off by rotating the polariser through ninety degrees, the light viewed is plane polarized light.
