Describe the formation of mudflats and salt marshes

Tides often deposit silt and river alluvium in sea inlets such as bays and river estuaries which are isolated along gently sloping coast. They build a platform of mud known as mudflats. Mudflats are common along humid coasts such as those in tropical Africa.
The mudflats can be colonized by vegetation such as grasses and mangrove to form a swamp. Such a swamp is referred to as a salt marsh since the vegetation grows in salty water.
