- Topography / drainage – The site should be gently sloping to facilitate easy drainage.

- Acceptability – The place should be easily reached from most parts of the farm to avoid time wastage.

- Security – The farm should be located in a safe environment away from risks such as theft.

- Existing amenities – The structures should be located near to existing amenities such as electricity, water supply to save costs.
