Negative change in base level.
This is the actual drop in the sea level which could be as a result of reduction in sea water due to an incomplete hydrological cycle. This could be due to water being held on land as ice sheets and glaciers instead of flowing into the ocean.

Uplift of the coastal land.
Faulting may cause the coastal region to be displaced upwards. Similarly, tectonic movement may cause the coastal land to warp upwards during folding. Isostatic recovery may also cause the coastal land to rise causing the formerly submerged coast to emerge from water.
