Ion exchange is the exchange of ions of the same charge between an insoluble solid and a solution in contact with it and which is used in water softening and other purification and separation processes while,liquid-liquid extraction is a method used to separate compounds based on their relative solubilities in two different immiscible liquids mostly water and an organic solvent.
