When beaker A was filled with gas M, the level of water in the glass tube rose to point II. When the experiment was repeated using gas N, the level of water dropped to point III. Explain the observations.

M is denser than air hence air diffuses out of the pot faster than the rate at which M is diffusing in. This causes reduced pressure in the pot and the level of water rises. In the cases of gas N, It diffuses into the pot faster causing more pressure hence the level of water drops.
