- Exhalation is the process of breathing out carbon (IV) oxide from the respiratory system of a human.

- This commences when external intercostal muscles relaxes.

- This is followed by internal intercostal muscles contracts.

- The diaphragm relaxes and moves outwards.

- The ribs moves outwards and inwards.

- This results to decreases in volume within the thoracic cavity and increasing pressure within the lungs in respect to atmospheric pressure.

- As a result of this,air(carbon dioxide) is drawn out of the lungs of a human down a pressure gradient.
