Building continental unity is a long term vision in this case we are talking of a one Africa, united States Of Africa. This is a proposed concept for a federation of some or all of the 55 sovereign states on the African continent this concept takes its origin from Marcus Garvey(1924) poem Hail United States Of Africa.proposal for this were made by some of thr African leaders like Muammar Al Gadaffi in 2003.in February 2009,upon being elected chairman of the 53 nation African union in Ethiopia,Gadaffi told the assembled African leaders "I shall continue to insist that our sovereign countries work to achieve the United states of Africa.
However this road toward achieving one African nation has been faced with many hurdles including:
1.INTERNAL CHALLENGES
The neo-liberal policies imposed by international Monetary Fund and the world bank and the violence of corporate-led globalization has further weakened Africa, the principal characteristic of the continent in its weakness and division, despite the foundation of the African union and adoption of the new partnership for Africans Development the divisions are ideological and political.
Neo-colonial ties are still strong with former colonial powers for example there are still many foreign military bases and facilities on the continent several countries still depend on western countries for their securities
GLOBALIZATION
globalization has entailed high costs for African continents as a result of acceleration of trade and financial liberalization and privatization of national assets to the benefit of multinational corporations thus weakening African nations

PRIVATIZATION OF STATE OWNED PROPERTY
privatization of state owned entities and public services has led to massive transfer of national property to foreign hands in this case western multinational corporations this combined with illegitimate and ubearable external debt on African countries has further deepened external domination and increased transfer of wealth to western countries
BRAIN DRAIN
Thousands of highly trained workers in all fields have been taken from African to work in foreign countries statistics from the world health organization in 2006 reveled that more than 25 percent of doctors trained in Africa work abroad, about 30,000 highly skilled Africans leave the continent each year for USA and Europe.
African immigrants are highest educated class in the range of all immigrants.
siting this examples we are able to deduce that although the spirit to create a one Africa lives among the people but it realization of this dream may take quite some time to be realised
