Alfred Wegener, a German scholar first proposed the theory of continental drift theory at around 1912.The theory suggests that the earth was one big mass called Pangea. Pangaea started to break up into two smaller supercontinents, called Laurasia and Gondwanaland, during the Jurassic period. By the end of the Cretaceous period, the continents were separating into land masses that look like our modern-day continents.

Wegener, the geophysicists and meteorologist,account was rejected by geologists duethis theory due to lack of a mechanism
