In discontinuous variation there occurs distinct differences between organism with no intermediate groupings e.g. male or female. In continuous variation; there occurs gradation in character with intermediate groups existing between the extreme character e.g. height, skin colours.

OR

Distinguish between continuous and discontinuous variations giving examples in each case.

a) In continuous variation the differences between its individuals are not clear cuts, that is, there are intermediates between any two extremes while in discontinuous variation there are clear cut differences of individuals within a species

b) in continuous variation they are influenced by both the genetic make up of an individual and the environment while in discontinuous variations they are influenced only by the genetic make up of an individual

Continuous variations include weight and height in human beings while discontinuous variations include ability to roll the tongue and A, B, O blood groups in human being.
