- The rock below should be limestone, chalk or dolomite.
- The rock should be well jointed soluble allowing solution to occur along the joints.
- The region should receive moderate high rainfal to facilitate solution process.
- The watch table should be deep to allow water percolation and sub sequential erosion
- Warm / hot climate.
