- Port has a deep water way that is free of silt enabling it to handle large ships.
- The port is strategically located as it has become a call port for other ships enroute to other parts of Europe.
- The port is equipped with modern facilities that can handle large cargo volume and also can serve many ships at one time
- The port also consist of large rich hinterland that spreads as far as Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium etc. hence handles transist cargo to and from the wide hinterlands.
- The fact that the port is in an area washed by the warm North Atlantic drift current keeps the port free from ice hence its operations are conducted all year round.
