(i)Climate
-Areas with extremely low and extremely high temperatures discourage settlement and influence population pattern since the cannot support the growth and development of various agricultural activities
-High rainfall areas (of above 1000mm) have high population density/densely populated because the high rainfall favour the growth of a variety of food crops. Plenty of food grown supports a large population while cash crops attract a large labour force.

(ii)Industrialization.
Establishment of industries in the urban centres lead to rural – urban migration in search of employment leading to an increase in urban population/decrease in rural population.
