Explain characteristics of human rights

i.Human rights are universal. This implies that they belong to everyone, rich or poor, male or female, young or old. This is where the principle of non-discrimination comes into being and therefore, the only requirement for one to enjoy human rights is being human.
ii. Human rights can be violated but can never be taken away from you.
Human rights are indivisible. This implies that human rights cannot be split, or divided into bits. For example, you are either granted the right to life or not. You cannot have the right to life sub-divided.
iii. Human rights are interdependent. They are related to and dependent on one another in order to be fulfilled. For example, the freedom to worship is dependent on the right to life.
iv. Human rights are legal rights. This means that they are part of the law.
v. Human rights are protected by constitutions and domestic laws.
