It is basic and combines with acid to form salts, for example, White fumes of ammonium sulphate are formed when few drops of concentrated sulphuric (vi) acid are added into jar containing ammonia gas.
In water, ammonia undergoes hydrolysis to form hydroxide ions.
Ammonia burns spontaneously in chlorine gas thus being oxidized to nitrogen.
When dry ammonia is passed over heated copper (ii) oxide, it is oxidized to nitrogen gas and copper (ii) oxide is reduced to copper.
