ii) They had weak/ inferior weapons which could not match those used by the British

iii) Their armies were ill-trained and poorly - organised

iv)They had been seriously weakened by natural calamities to offer any meaningful resistance.

v) Hoped to get material and non material benefits from the British booty, education, medicine.

vi) hoped to get the British assistance and protection against their enemy's with guns.

vii) Hoped to defend their independence and maintain their positions or be made paramount chiefs.
