Internal land forming processes, especially the ones due to compression or tensional forces can cause some part of the crust to warp upwards and downwards. Down warping results in the formation of shallow depressions which eventually fill up with water from rivers. Water from the underground and from rain also fills up the depressions resulting in a lake.
Examples of such lakes are lake Victoria and lake bangweulu
