The constitution: section 20 of the constitution of Kenya from discrimination on the grounds of race, creed or place of origin. It guarantees equality of opportunity for all citizens.
Education: through conscious mixing of the education system, children are encouraged from an early age to think of themselves as Kenyan. The school curriculum stresses on the importance of national unity and develops a sense of belonging to the nation among young people
Equal distribution of resources: the government attempts to improve the standards of living of the people by investing money in education and training, in health care and by developing resources in all areas
Social and economic interactions: the constitution of Kenya provides freedom of movement and association. It allows different communities to interact through intercommunity marriage, playing games together and to settle anywhere in the country. Only one currency is used to transact business in Kenya, the Kenyan shilling.
National language: in 1975, Kiswahili was made the national language. Kiswahili is spoken by Kenyans of different ethnic groups making them communicate freely and exchange ideas easily. English is used in parliament as an official language
National philosophies: national philosophies in Kenya are harambee and nyayoism. Harambee calls for people from different ethnic groups to pool their resources together. Nyayoism is meant to promote love, peace and unity among Kenyans.
National symbols: these are the national flag, national anthem, coat of arms, loyalty pledge and national wards. The national flag is the symbol of our country. The court of arms symbolizes existence of a sovereign state. The national anthem is a reminder of a peaceful and harmonious existence. The loyalty pledge reminds us of our existence to our president and the nation.
