1. They were using simple and unsophisticated weapons as compared to the British superior weapons of war.

2. Disunity. They were disunited and at times fought one another. Some even collaborated with the British.

3. The Africans were not well trained. They also lacked coordination.

4. The British got reinforcements from their mother country and friends. This in turn strengthened their armies and made it possible to easily defeat Kenyan communities.

5. The British used brutality in dealing with African. They used scorched earth policy.

6. The British used treachery and entered into treaties with Kenyan leaders. Most Kenyan leaders did not understand the content of the treaties they signed with the British.

7. Poor leadership among the Kenyan communities. Some leaders were corrupt and selfish. They were much interested in personal gains.

8. Natural calamities affected Kenyan communities and could not offer stiff resistance to the British.
