This feature is formed by wind erosion through the process of abrasion. It is formed when an homogeneous rock mass lies on the path of wind containing weathered materials. The undercutting is more intensive at the base of the rock mass leading to a very narrow base. At the top, the wind contains a small amount of weathered materials hence the top of the rock mass is smoothened by the wind resulting in a feature with a very broad head and narrow bottom that resembles a mushroom hence the name mushroom block.
