How to Improve Domestic Tourism
a) Betterment of Infrastructure.
It involves the improvement on the existing infrastructure and constructing new ones in those places where it does not exist.They include roads, railways and airports. This will enhance reachability to many places even the remote places thus the local people can too be able to move from the destination origin to new places for tourism and leisure.
b) Proper Allocation of Resources.
Good planning and equal distribution of resources to all sectors and regions will thereafter trigger development. This should be done fairly and without corruption and discrimination. c) Advance in Technology
Nowadays, people are tired of travelling to idle hotels, resorts or restaurants, they want WiFi and other faster communication and browsing facilities. Their desire to travel will rise again if this facilities are instilled in the institutions.
d) Incentives and Lobbies
There should be free incentives like free land availed to those willing to establish tourism firms meant for domestic tourism. They should also be reduced tax on domestic tourism activities so as to increase the number o visits. This will thus attract more travellers.
e) Diversification of The tourism products.
Local tourists are tired of travelling to see and enjoy the same products they have been used to for quite a good number of years but they are after those new products added in the industry. The wildlife visits, beach bathing and game parks have been the major tourism activities from 1989 thus new services and products have to be innovated so as to trigger again the desire of that local person to travel to those areas. There should be new products like conferences, vacations, forest camps, skiing, artificial snow sports, ice skating, rural and cultural tourism which is free from tribalism, ecotourism and virtual reality.
f) Campaigns on Domestic tourism
Masive campaigns should be conducted with a view of educating and familiarising the locals about new features added to the tourism industry and the importance of tourism in a society as well as the current and future plans of the tourism industry. This will create a desire in the locals to visit those places with most fascinating features as depicted in the campaigns.
Benefits that can Result from Improving Domestic Tourism
a) Employment opportunities will be created as it is s labour intensive activity
b) It will help in enhancing consistency in the tourism industry especially during the off peak period as tourism is highly seasonal thus help in maintaining the economic earning and boost on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
c) Increased government revenue even during the offpeak season gained from tax paid by the tourism companies and the tax to tourists too while making effort to travel, purchase products or associate in consumption of the services.
d) Improvement on Infrastructure
New infrastructural developments will be realized with the aim of aiding accessibility to tourism destinations by the domestic tourist as being the responsibility of the government in collaboration with the tourism industry. This infrastructure like roads, standard gauge railways will remain in service for a long time while serving tourism and other sectors too.
e) Urbanization
Due the realization of new and diversified products for tourism, the once marginalised and poor regions will be transformed to big cities and towns as new features and superstructures are erected thus changing its marginal outlook.
