Development of independent schools faced problems such as:

-Lack of trained teachers
-Lack of necessary facilities e.g textbooks,writing materials and a well developed curriculum
-Limited finances raised through self help(Harambee)
-Little or no financial aid from the government was available
-The missionaries were opposed to the establishmet of such schools since they were competing with them and occasionally making them lose their followers,catechists and teachers.They pressurised the government to have those schools closed
